Grit

Grit can mean different things to many of us, and even though being a Southerner I really like the ones we cook, today I am referring to how we persevere in our life and our work. Nothing great comes easy, and typically nothing easy is worthwhile.
Many speakers such as Bill Hybels, Kevin Elko, John Maxwell, and John Mattone are all talking grit these days, and I want to add a little spin on it and include grit with character. When things get tough, many people look for the easy road, and sometimes that’s not the best path for building a person’s character or the business’ reputation. I believe we all grow from adversity and gain resiliency as we go through these experiences and not around them.
We all have examples in our life and hopefully we can share these with others and help them learn and grow as well. I love being around those with this “integritty” because it’s a spirit you can’t help but admire and adopt. At roux we are grateful to have clients who are of high moral character and make the tough decisions everyday – they are who we align with and model everyday — personally and professionally.
Every January we like to gather as a croux and plan for the year ahead. It serves as a holiday celebration and a strategy session. We look forward to it every year. Over the last few years, we’ve also begun incorporating a “word of the year” practice, where we each choose a word that we will focus on throughout the year.
