Social Media Strategy - The $25 Amazon Gift Card
Karen Hall • January 15, 2017
In a previous post we promised to explain why a $25 Amazon gift card will derail your social media strategy and fragment your audience.
Bloggers and social media experts must provide great relevant content and be able to engage an audience. A real key is that the audience must all be interested, nay passionate, about the same topics.
So whether you blog about hair care products or extreme rock climbing, your audience should all want more, more, more from you about that. Most bloggers and social media experts want to expand their audience. However, you must make sure you expand with people with the same passions.
Here’s where the $25 Amazon card comes in. You decide that on your Facebook page focusing on hair care products you want to expand your audience. You ask people to like your page and share with their friends to get more likes, offering a $25 Amazon card as an incentive.
Guess what happens? You add lots of likes to your page – what you wanted. However, you added people who simply wanted the Amazon card and who are not necessarily passionate about hair card products. Result – a fragmented audience not all dialed into your specific content.
Think about the results had you offered something your current audience and people like them would love and want. And only they would love and want. You’d still add likes and you’d have people that would stick with you.
So know your audience, figure out what they and only they would like and offer that as an incentive. And save the Amazon card for your nephew for his birthday.
Every January we like to gather as a croux and plan for the year ahead. It serves as a holiday celebration and a strategy session. We look forward to it every year. Over the last few years, we’ve also begun incorporating a “word of the year” practice, where we each choose a word that we will focus on throughout the year.
