roux’s Review of SB LII
Karen Hall • February 5, 2018
As many of us eased into our new found roles as Philadelphia Eagles fans, the roux team was eager to cheer on our team and decide on the best 2018 Super Bowl commercials. The game did not disappoint as our (new) favorite team took the victory in an exciting and hard-fought match.
Many of the commercials were great, too. Our top picks are below.
- Dirty Dancing An NFL ad featuring Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. is a perfect mix of awkwardness and hilariousness proving no one puts OBJ in a corner.
- Lionel won’t say it! An Ameritrade ad features Lionel Richie and two guys desperately trying to get him to say “All Night Long.” It’s short and sweet and you get to hear part of the hit song at the end.
- Budweiser Water We are given an inside look at switching from canning beer to canning water to provide emergency relief. It will be interesting to see if the public perception is positive or if people think it was too self-serving.
- Rocket Mortgage keeps it simple This one features Keegan-Michael Key and Big Sean and the discussion about the dating app is hysterical.
- Thanking First Responders Verizon uses what we believe to be recorded conversations of people helped by and thanking first responders. It’s a cool ad but we wonder about perception same as the Budweiser Water commercial.
Every January we like to gather as a croux and plan for the year ahead. It serves as a holiday celebration and a strategy session. We look forward to it every year. Over the last few years, we’ve also begun incorporating a “word of the year” practice, where we each choose a word that we will focus on throughout the year.
